Edmonton Oilers Daryl Katz rules out Wayne Gretzky's involvement in team affairs -NHL Update
Wayne Gretzky might very well be the best ice hockey player to have ever graced the National Hockey League (NHL) and still lives on in the hearts of many, but recently being seen with the Edmonton Oilers top brass in Seattle, really forced him to get on
the nerve of many diehard fans.
Clearing his name, Daryl Katz, owner of the Edmonton Oilers club, ruled out Gretzky’s involvement in any of the team’s affairs, especially the one that has them considering a move from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, to Seattle.
Gretzky reportedly participated with Sportsnet 590 The Fan, a Toronto based radio station on Tuesday, to clear his name and said that he was with the owner in Seattle just to watch a football game.
"That's the last time I go to a football game," Gretzky said.
"I'm not involved with the NHL, I'm really not. It's just one of those things where I was invited to go to a football game and I said why not. Any official capacity is absolutely zero. I have no stake or claim in any team in the NHL whatsoever. Went there
to enjoy a football game."
There was immediate reaction from Edmonton Oilers fans as they saw the two together and assumed that it was part of some sort of business deal to be carried out between the two.
In lieu of those rumours, Wayne Gretzky, also known as ‘The Great One’ in the world of hockey, termed the possibility of the relocation of the Edmonton Oilers to be highly unlikely and even impossible according to his personal opinion.
Having the Edmonton Oilers move out of Northern Alberta would definitely be devastating for the fans of the Canadian club as in the nation, hockey is everything. Winnipeg lost the Jets and got them back after 15 years of waiting and fans of the Oilers are
not willing to go through such a tough phase anytime soon.
Updates on the whole situation should be expected in the upcoming days as the club and the city of Edmonton, with the interference of the NHL, try to work something out and meet each other’s demands.
