Edmonton Oilers come up with an impressive performance wining 5-1 against the Colorado Avalanche
The second last game of Wednesday was hosted by the Colorado Avalanche as they were up against the Edmonton Oilers at the Pepsi Centre.
Both teams are pretty much out of contention for a play-off spot but a win would be very encouraging as they are the two bottom teams in the league.
The opening period saw the Oilers in a difficult position as they couldn’t create chance but still they scored a goal.
The second and third period saw them putting the foot on the gas as they scored couple of goals to win the game 5-1 in the end.
Devan Dubnyk of the Oilers was named the star of the game for making 38 saves during the course of the game.
During the first period it was mostly about the Avalanche who came up with a splendid performance which saw them nearing the goal right from the start.
Though the Avalanche has several scoring chances early but they failed to convert them into goals.
Oilers were struggling and couldn’t even come up with shots on goal. However, they still managed to score in the 15th minute through Dustin Penner to get into the lead.
After the goal, the period was still dominated by the Avalanche as they kept on piling shots on goal.
However, the scores didn’t chance as the period ended with the Oilers leading 1-0. During the period, the Oilers could manage just 3 goal attempts while the Avalanche made 13 goal attempts.
The second period was more of an offensive battle as the Oilers changed their strategy and emerged very strong of the offence. The home team wasn’t far behind as they constructed some brilliant pieces of play too.
However, the Oilers doubled their lead scoring in the 8th minute through Sam Gagner. The Oilers came across power play in the 16th minute and scored once again through rookie Taylor Hall.
Avalanche managed to pull one back in the 18th minute with Milan Hejduk scoring from a brilliant flick shot.
The period ended with the Avalanche making 16 goal attempts in the period while the Oilers made 13 goal attempts with the Oilers leading 3-1 at the end of the period.
The final 20 minutes of play saw both teams following on the same roads as the second period. There were chances coming in both teams way and it was just a matter of time as to when they would score.
This didn’t too long as the Oilers scored in the 12th minute through Jordan Eberle, another rookie in the team who has come up with some impressive performances. The Oilers sealed the deal as they scored once again in the next minute through Kurtis
Foster.
The period and the game ended with the Oilers winning the game 5-1 in the end. The final 20 minutes of play saw the Oilers making 15 goal attempts while the Avalanche made 10 goal attempts.
