Edmonton Oilers’ first round pick of the 2012 NHL draft back to the training camp after leg problem
Nail Yakupov, the first overall pick of the 2012 NHL draft, selected by Edmonton Oilers, is back to the training camp, after he got a scare of a leg infection. He had earlier brushed aside the rumours that he has a leg infection which would be a real big
problem for him.
Yakupov took few days off and watched the training from the bench but he stepped on the ice on Friday and did some training. The Russian forward had fallen off a tread mill while he was doing some exercise and suffered a minor injury. But some reports came
out that it is something to worry about.
According to the 18-year-old, Oilers’ player, it was not as serious as it looked and there was nothing to worry about it. He was actually annoyed by the false reports and told he is fine as he said,
“My leg’s OK. I’m fine, I’m practising, so there’s nothing to worry about.”
The Nizhnekamsk, Russia born right winger has been training with the fitness consultant Simon Bennett for some time and doing the tough exercise of running up the stairs, an exercise that takes best out of someone.
Yakupov was happy that Bennett accompanied him well by running with him and trained him very well for the NHL games, as he said,
“It’s good, he ran with me a couple of times. The third time he said he didn’t want to run up with me anymore. But it’s good and you have to run and you have to work hard if you want to play in the NHL.”
The 5-foot-11, 185 pounder also wants to get used to the conditions of Edmonton and Canada, which is one of the reasons that he is not training in Russia, but Canada. He is loving the work here and sweating as he added,
“There’s a big difference between here and in Russia, that’s why I came here. I want to practise here and get ready for the NHL. I feel good when I’m practising and working hard. I love to sweat and work hard. I love it.”
