Edmonton Oilers goalie Devan Dubnyk terms Labour Union desires as just wanting fair deal
For all those critics of the National Hockey League (NHL) Players’ Association, Edmonton Oilers representative and goalie, Devan Dubnyk, has termed the intentions and desires of the labour union of being as such to just wanting a fair deal for both sides.
With the current collective bargaining agreement set to come to an end on September 15th of this year, both the NHLPA and league are constantly working towards renewing the deal or implementing a new one all together.
Edmonton Oilers is one of the many teams that is looking forward to the upcoming 2012-2013 NHL regular season and without a doubt it is one which may have many surprises in hand.
With players like Nail Yakupov picked up as the first in this year’s draft by Edmonton, giving them a first pick trio along with Taylor Hall and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Oilers’ fans cannot wait to see their team back in the playoffs fighting for the Stanley
Cup.
"There's a ton of excitement around this team and there's good reason for it," said Dubnyk, who sits in on weekly conference calls with the union, according to the Edmonton Sun.
The first proposal that the league put forward was definitely one that anyone can term to be unfair to the players in every which way. From decreasing their share in team revenue from 57 to 46 percent along with making entry-level deals mandatory for five
years, cutting out signing bonuses and arbitration, the league made an offer the union had no choice but to refuse.
"It's certainly not what we're going to be looking for. Last time. we gave up a lot of concessions so we didn't lose a season, so we're just looking for a fair deal right now and I don't think anybody watching, players or fans, could possibly say that first
proposal is anything close to fair,” Dubnyk added.
In recent statements by the league and Players’ Association, it seems like both sides are dedicated to getting a new deal signed before the current one comes to an end.
It will definitely be interesting to see how the situation plays out.
