Edmonton Oilers host Dallas Stars in their final meeting this season in hopes of getting a win
Edmonton Oilers will play host to the Dallas Stars in what will be the final game of Tuesday. This will be the final meeting of the season and the first meeting of the year between the two teams. Dallas Stars have won each of the three meetings between the
two sides 3-2, 4-2 and 3-1 respectively.
All the three games took place within 16 days and with Dallas Stars notching up wins in each of the games their morale will be sky high to clean sweep the series. Brenden Morrow is the leader in the series with three goals and Kari Lehtonen, goalie of the
Stars has allowed only five goals.
Dallas Stars need to step up their game as things are heating up in the Western Conference due to the teams being very close on points. There are even chances at the moment that the last placed team in the play-off cut can finish in the second spot such
is the tightness in the league. However, with the game against the Edmonton Oilers Dallas Stars start three games road trip from which they need points. If they are enable in doing so they have a very being chance of falling out of the play-off spot despite
being in the third spot in the Western Conference.
The final game of the road trip will be against the New Jersey Devils who are currently on a four game winning streak and constantly notching up wins in their surge for a play-off position. Dallas Stars on the other hand haven’t have had the best of times
and things haven’t turned out very well after the All-Star break. They have managed to come up with just one regulation time win over the past six games which have allowed teams behind them to catch up.
Dallas Stars have been leading the Pacific Division for quite some time throughout the season and until recently it was out of question that the last placed team in the Division could make it into the play-offs or not.
However, with the disappointing performances of Dallas Stars recently, the doors are opening for such questions to arise. If Dallas Stars don’t step up their game then they have their play-off position in jeopardy.
"We're doing some things that just don't work," Richards said. "We're not quite on the same page for whatever reason. There's little things and stuff that we haven't been doing all year."
Both Edmonton Oilers and Dallas Stars have played 56 games in the season so far. Dallas Stars have won 31 games in regulation time, 6 games in overtime and scored 68 points. However, struggling Edmonton Oilers have won just 16 games in regulation time, 8
in overtime and sit last in the Western Conference with 40 points.
Edmonton Oilers are on a six games home run currently and this would be the fourth game. They have lost all of their last three home games with the most recent loss against the Anaheim Ducks today. Ducks absolutely dominated the game winning 4-0 in the end.
The Oilers could come up with just 12 shots on goal during the period which Taylor Hall said of as a bad job.
"I just think we have to challenge ourselves to be a lot better," he said. "I truly believe everyone in this room cares and everyone is giving it their all, but at some point it has to turn into results."
The game has the momentum in favour of the Dallas Stars but the interesting thing is that how the Stars proceed after the game in the attempt to remain top of the Pacific Division.
