Edmonton Oilers keep two of their most talented and upcoming players by re-signing them
Within a week, Edmonton Oilers re-signed two of their upcoming players and prospects, Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle, by keeping their locking their services even when they had years left on their previous contracts.
Oilers have inked both in long term contracts, Eberle for six years and Hall for seven years, by paying them well and good. Both have been paid same amount for an year as Eberle would be paid $36 million and Taylor would be given $42 million, both averaging
at $6 million per year.
Taylor, the 20-year-old forward signed on 22nd August and Eberle, the 22-year-old line mate of Hall signed just 7 days after him with the same amount. According to Jordan it was deliberate and both of them wanted to sign with the same amount and
both of them wanted to play and stay together as he said after his deal was announced on Thursday,
"We want to be here. We want to be the core guys who help the team win. We wanted to sign for similar numbers and similar years."
According to Eberle, they want to take their team and forward and win something for them, which they have not been able to do in recent time so now they want to go in one direction with all the concentration and focus on winning, as he said,
"It signifies we want to be here for a significant amount of time and that we see the direction that the team is going, and that's forward. I think this year is definitely going to be a big year for us. We still have a lot to prove and team-wise we haven't
done much so that's our focus right now."
Jordan who is just two years younger than Hall, was selected in the first round of the 2008 NHL Draft by Edmonton Oilers whereas Hall was selected in the first round of the 2010 NHL Draft.
Eberle made NHL debut in 2010 and has played 147 games since then, scoring 52 goals, 67 assists for total of 119 points and Hall has played 126 games, scoring 49 goals, 46 assists for total of 95 points.
