Edmonton Oilers looking for centre
According to a report by TSN.ca, Edmonton Oilers general manager Steve Tambellini is still in the market for a centre, but is determined to stick to his re-building plan.
The Oilers are said to be looking for some added grit at the centre position and are also interested in a depth defenseman. However, Tambellini is determined to continue the re-build and is not willing
to part with prospects or draft picks.
The Oilers have struggled with consistency down the middle this season and are interested in picking up a player who is willing to battle and perhaps help out the team’s League worst penalty kill.
Nevertheless, Edmonton believes they are on the path to success and will not be willing to part with a big name player. However, Alex Hemsky’s name will continue to be batted around until the end of the
season, as many believe the winger will become available as the season inches closer to the trade deadline.
Tambellini has mentioned that if he is unable to acquire a centre of his liking through an appropriate trade the team will have to look to their American Hockey League affiliate the Oklahoma City Barons.
At the moment the frontrunner for a promotion is tough forward Liam Reddox, who played well for the Oilers in the pre-season, but was sent to the AHL at the end of camp. So far this season Reddox has managed
18 points in 20 games with Oklahoma City.
Many have speculated that Linus Omark, who leads the Barons in points, could get the call. However, his style of play may not be conducive to a third or fourth line role, as he is more of a skilled forward.
Regardless, expect the Oilers to continue toeing the line, as the club will continue to build through youth and hope they can get out of the Western Conference basement.
