Edmonton Oilers lose third straight as Chicago Blackhawks dominate 6-3 -NHL Match Update
It was a battle of some of the top ranking teams in the Western Conference, but Chicago flexed some muscles and showed that it is number one as the Blackhawks dominated the Edmonton Oilers, 6-3, to strengthen their position with National Hockey League (NHL)
highest, 25 points, Sunday night, November 13, 2011, at the sold-out United Center in Chicago, Illinois, United States.
Edmonton on the other hand, could have tied with the Dallas Stars for the second number spot with 22 points, but as Minnesota Wild also won their matchup on the same day, the Oilers fell to the fourth number spot with 20.
"That's a skilled team that maybe doesn't have a lot of experience, but you can't take them lightly", Chicago Blackhawks captain, Jonathan Toews, said of the Oilers, who beat the defending Stanley Cup champions last season in Chicago. "We talked about what
happened in our own building early last year and they're a team that's having even more success this season. We wanted to have a good start against them and we did".
Jonathan Toews opened the scoring with his eighth of the season, 4:55 into the first period. Steve Montador followed closely with his second of the season and the night to extend the lead.
Ryan Smyth entered double digits in his scoring with 10 goals at the 11:41 mark in the first while Montador added another Chicago goal nearly five minutes late to secure a, 3-1, lead.
Toews potted his second of the night 22 second into the second while Edmonton also got another with Jordan Eberle capitalising on an unassisted breakaway, but Duncan Keith’s goal nearly a minute after the Oilers second was the one to take the match out
of their hand.
Shawn Horcoff added the Canadian teams’ last goal of the night during a power play opportunity with 35 seconds to go while Daniel Carcillo scored an insuring goal with less than two minutes to go in the third period.
Edmonton has the next two at home starting off against the Ottawa Senators on Thursday. Chicago Blackhawks will now start a six game road trip, kicking it off against the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday.
