Edmonton Oilers netminder Devan Dubnyk upbeat about his form, optimistic for second chance-NHL News
The Ukrainian-Canadian professional ice hockey netminder, Devan Dubnyk, is upbeat about his performance and hopeful of getting another chance from the Edmonton Oilers.
Dubnyk, who is being tested by the team in front of the net, said to have been enjoying his game and not much carried away by the future worries.
He has proved himself to be effective in protecting the team’s net but is not going to be called for Thursday game. However, the player seems to be little worry about the future.
The Netminder said:
“I feel great, I feel like I’m in a good spot as far as finding the puck. I’m holding my feet and reacting to the play. When you’re able to stay on your feet longer, it’s always going to help you, because you’re able to find lanes to help see the puck on
a lot of plays.”
The goaltender’s role stood out in the last game against the Nashville Predators. He continuously fended off the attacks on the net by Predators.
Oilers; head coach, Tom Renney, said:
“Devan was outstanding, he showed a battle level that we needed to see. In the third period, we turned the puck over a lot, and he was there and square and as the game went on he needed to become more competitive for us.”
The coach however did not offer any comment about the future prospects for the player. Equally silent is the player himself, and it is difficult to ascertain if he is going to be given more chances this season.
As of the latest, the player has cleared the way for Oilers main netminder, Nikolai Khabibulin, for their next game of the season.
Irrespective to the future chances, Dubnyk has proved himself to be worthy of professional league, and according to some commentators he should be given another chance by Oilers.
Some reports have disclosed that the player is apparently keen to be backed by the coaching staff and have some clarity around his future.
He himself is quite optimistic about getting another chance. While referring to his successful testing phase, he said that was what a starting goaltender can prove, leaving rest of the matter on the team’s officials, apparently.
The player said that for him getting of the last opportunity was most important, as it presented him the opportunity to showcase his skills and with the passage of time he could show that he was getting better.
He said that he was feeling good about the last chance and only can hope for getting more opportunities to keep himself going. This is the only way I can progress in my game and career, he said.
In spite of making the strong impression on the ice during his first entry and presenting the case as effectively in the aftermath, it remains for the management to make their choice.
