Edmonton Oilers owner Daryl Katz comes out in the open, apologises to fans -NHL Update
Edmonton Oilers fans were immensely heartbroken after learning about their favourite team, which they had given everything for and followed with such dedication, was potentially on the verge of being relocated as the ownership group, headed by Daryl Katz, was down in Seattle, looking for a new home as reported by the media.
Fortunately, for the uncountable fans of one of hockey’s most celebrated franchises, Katz came out with an open letter to the people and stakeholders, that he apologises for his actions and underestimated the support for the team.
According to sources, the owner spent somewhere around $15, 000 to spread his humble message, which definitely comes as a positive move from his side, allowing fans to forgive his previous actions. The rage from fans even went to the extent of blaming hockey’s ‘Great One’ Wayne Gretzky, who was seen with Katz in Seattle, but later disclosed that they were just together to watch a football match in the city.
“To the people of Edmonton, Northern Alberta and Oilers fans everywhere, I owe you an explanation,” Katz’s letter began.
“I was upset when certain confidential information was leaked and by comments that I thought were unfair and called my integrity into question. I reacted by trying to send a message to City leaders that they should not take my support for a new arena for granted.”
“In doing so, I took for granted your support and your love for the Oilers.
“That was wrong, and I apologize.”
After his letter, the Mayor of Edmonton came out to openly announce his active participation in involving city hall and working out a solution to the team’s woes as soon as possible.
Hopefully for fans, they will not only able to continue seeing their favourite club continuing to perform every night once the lockout comes to an end, but just might see a new stadium for the Edmonton Oilers, with much better and needed facilities for all.
Updates and developments on the issue should be expected in the upcoming days as authorities get more involved in working out a positive solution to keep the team where it is.
