Edmonton Oilers play host to Calgary Flames in the fifth out of six scheduled meetings between them
The final game of Saturday will be played at the Rexall Place as the league strugglers Edmonton Oilers face Calgary Flames. This will be the fifth out of the six scheduled meetings between the two teams during the course of the season.
Oilers came up with a dominating performance that saw them winning the first game 4-0 after which they Flames were on a roll in the series and have won the last three games. The last meeting between the two teams took place on the 1st of January
2011 which saw Flames winning the game 2-1 in the end with Mark Giordano scoring the winning the goal.
Flames have played the most games (76) out of all the teams in the league but they are in the 10th spot in the Western Conference.
Though Flames are two points behind the final play-off position, occupied by Anaheim Ducks, the fact that they have the least games left to play might go against them if they don’t come up with points that could potentially put them or push them out of the
play-off cut.
Flames are left with six games as the season draws to a close but the fact that they haven’t won any of their last three games in regulation has hurt them a lot in their chances of making it into the play-off cut.
The last game that they played was against the San Jose Sharks, a game which saw the Sharks dominating game and winning 6-3 in the end this past Wednesday.
"We've been in a little bit of a rut in our last five or six games," captain Jarome Iginla said. "We're not coming out and playing as confident or assertive as we need to. In the first period to give up four goals is not going to win you many games. It's
unacceptable. Obviously it's a tough loss at this time of year."
Flames have won 37 games in regulation time, 11 games in overtime out of the 76 games they have played scoring a total of 85 points. Oilers are last in the league and have played 74 games out of which they have won 23 games in regulation time, 10 games in
overtime to score a total of 56 points.
Oilers have been struggling throughout the season but they recorded three straight games at the start of the March. However, when Taylor Hall got injured things got different from then as they have lost eight games. They lost their most recent game 4-0 against
the St. Louis Blues this past Thursday.
"It's frustrating, obviously," forward Jordan Eberle said. "We've got some guys out that help us with offense but collectively as a group, we should be able to put the puck in the net. I think it comes down to getting the puck to the net first off and getting
second opportunities."
