Edmonton Oilers re-sign Canadian forward Taylor Hall for seven years: NHL Reports
Canadian left-winger, Taylor Hall has extended his contract with Edmonton Oilers of the Western Division of National Hockey League (NHL), as he re-signed with them for $42 million in a seven-year deal. Hall has one year left on his previous contract.
This has made him the highest earning Oilers’ player at $6 million per year, second highest earner being fellow forward Shawn Horcoff who has a cap hit of $5.5 million. Hall has got a huge increment as his previous contract, which was an entry-level deal,
was for three years and $900,000 per year.
Calgary, Alberta resident, told that he is confident by signing such a long term deal with Oilers and he would be looking to become a perennial threat as he said,
"When they said seven years I didn't blink. I'm comfortable being here for that long. I think by that time ... I hope we're a perennial threat. That's my main goal and my mindset when I signed the deal."
Steve Tambellini, general manager of Edmonton Oilers was also satisfied to keep the player and according to him Hall would be a very useful player for them, as he said,
"You have to have complete belief in the player, and our organization obviously does. He just brings such a complete level to our organization. He grabs the rope and pulls everybody along."
20-year-old Hall was 2010 NHL Draft’s first ever pick and was selected by Edmonton Oilers. He made the debut in the same season and along with him, there was another youngster who played NHL for the first time in that season, Jordan Eberle.
Jordan Eberle also had a great last season, scoring 76 points and he is also going through discussions to extend his tenure at Edmonton’s team.
Hall is also looking to play alongside Eberle for a longer time and wants him to stay as he said about his team-mate,
"We've had some good dialogues throughout this whole thing and I think his should be pretty soon. He's along the same path; he wants to be here and so do I."
But, Hall, the 6-foot-1 and 200 pounder’s first priority would be to focus on his own performance and make it even better as he has not been as impressive as people are expecting him to be. In his first two seasons, he has played 126 NHL games, scored 49
goals, 46 assists for total of 95 points.
