Edmonton Oilers star players Jordan Eberle and Nugent-Hopkins set to feature in AHL
After the National Hockey League (NHL) lockout, most of the foreigner players are moving to their native countries, most of them in Europe but American and Canadian players are moving to the affiliate teams of their own teams in the minor leagues.
Same way, star players of Edmonton Oilers, Jordan Eberle and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins have been assigned to play for Oilers’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliates Oklahoma City Barons. Both forwards have been assigned to play for the Barons until the lockout
ends and they seem to be happy with this fact.
22-year-old Eberle felt very happy to get back into action as he told that he was eager to start playing again and he was very happy to do the training session with the Barons team on Thursday, as he said,
“That’s the biggest thing, just getting back into the routine. I’m just getting anxious to play.”
Oklahoma City will start their campaign on Friday, 5th October against Houston Aeros and they will play them again next day on Saturday, the 6thth October. Both of these will games will be pre-season games, as their regular season will
begin next week, on 12th October with a game against Lake Erie Monsters.
In NHL, travelling is mostly done in charter planes but Eberle and Nugent-Hopkins will face something different in AHL as they will have to travel in commercial planes instead.
There are many other NHL facilities that these players will be missing, including the packing bags and stuff but still they surely will be given all the respect, limelight and publicity because of the fact that they are coming after doing well in one of
the best ice hockey league in the world.
19-year-old Nugent-Hopkins is also enjoying as he thinks there is not much difference between the both leagues and he is loving to play with guys who are young like him, as he said,
“It’s just good being with guys who are young. It should be fun joining a team like this. This is a good chance to work on some things we might not usually get to work on. I know I have to keep working on my defensive game and also my faceoffs. I really
have to bear down there.”
