Edmonton Oilers surprise everyone with a dominating 4-0 win against the Nashville Predators
Nashville Predators hosted the Edmonton Oilers in another one of the games on Monday. The match was played at the Bridgestone Arena, home of the Predators with the Oilers looking for win as they slipped to last position in the league.
The game was evenly matched by the two sides throughout the course of the sixty minute but Edmonton Oilers proved to be more productive teams on the night and won the match 4-0 in the end. Devon Dubynk, goal keeper of the Oilers was named the star selection
of the match he made 37 saves out of the 37 shots fired towards his goal.
Nashville Predators playing with the home advantage made an excellent start to the match which saw them dominating the game. They suffocated the Oilers frontline early on and their passing and combination enabled them to come across scoring opportunities
regularly. There were several occasions where it looked almost certain that the Predators would score but unfortunately no goals were scored.
On the other hand, all Oilers could managed during the period were a few shots on goal and that too on counter attacks. Oilers unlike their counterparts managed to convert one of their chances in the 15th minute into a goal and get into the lead.
The goal was scored by Andrew Cogliano from a brilliant backhand shot.
The game followed the same flow with the Predators mostly dominating and the Oilers firing a few shots on counter attacks. However, no further goals were scored as the period ended with Oilers leading 1-0. During the period, Predators made 16 goal attempts
while Oilers made just 6 goal attempts.
The second period saw the momentum shift as the Oilers started to control the pace and attacked and defended really well. They had several chances early on to score with the spectacular plays they developed. It was not until the 15th minute that
the Oilers scored once again through Ryan Jones to double their lead.
Edmonton Oilers continued to pile pressure on the Predators defence and they had a few more decent chances to score more goals. However, they couldn’t find the back of the net. Predators also came up with several goal attempts every now and then but they
too couldn’t score and the period ended with the Oilers leading 2-0 with just one period left to play. During the period, Oilers made 11 goal attempts while Predators made 6 goal attempts.
The final period of the game saw the Edmonton Oilers put the foot on the gas and with two successive goals in the 5th and 6th minutes they sealed the game. The first goal was scored by Jim Vandermeer while the second was scored by Dustin
Penner from a spectacular backhand shot.
Though Nashville Predators tried desperately till the very end of the game to score a goal and in doing so came across numerous scoring opportunities but they couldn’t find a way past the Oilers goal keeper. The match ended with the Oilers winning 4-0 in
the end as they 5 goal attempts while the Predators made 15 goal attempts.
