Edmonton Oilers victimise Nashville Predators in thrashing spree 6-2 -NHL Match Update
Just when it looked like the, 9-2, thrashing of the Chicago Blackhawks by Edmonton was a fluke, the Oilers continued their thrashing spree after a minor disturbance, against the Nashville Predators, 6-2, on Tuesday night, November 22, 2011, at the Bridgestone
Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, United States.
Dallas might have thought they cooled down the young Edmonton team after defeating them, 4-1, but the Oilers washed away all the rumouring and came out just as strong against the veteran Predators team and did not leave any room for further embarrassment.
"Too many turnovers, not really getting on them, playing a light, soft game," Nashville coach, Barry Trotz, said. "They just transitioned and turned (the turnovers) into goals.”
Top 2011 NHL Entry Draft pick, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had another multiple point night by helping his teammates score and picking up two assists. Young Edmonton goalie, Devan Dubnyk, was in the net for Edmonton instead of Nikolai Khabibulin and performed just
as good by blocking 30 of 32 shots.
The Oilers were a little clumsy on the penalty aspect of the game by giving Nashville six opportunities with an added man on the ice but luckily also managed to kill off five of them. Edmonton took advantage of two of their four chances.
Shawn Horcoff, Ales Hemsky and Jordan Eberle gave the Oilers a strong 3-0 lead after scoring three straight in the first period.
They managed to hold off the Predators in the second period while they gave three straight penalties but came out strong once again in the third and final period of regulation.
Eberle scored his second of the night five minutes into the third. Nashville’s, Jordin Tootoo, finally put the home team on the scoreboard with his first of the season on a power play while Jeff Petry broke the momentum with his penalty goal nearly a minute
later.
Horcoff also got another goal, while Nashville’s, Jonathon Blum, finished off the scoring with 20 seconds to go, and with the Predators still down by four, defeat was inevitable.
Edmonton is certainly reaching for the stars this time around and hope to continue thrashing as they face the Minnesota Wild on Friday.
