Edmonton Oilers win 4-2 against the Columbus Blue Jackets
The Edmonton Oilers hosted the Columbus Blue Jackets in another game of Thursday at the Rexall Place.
The game wasn’t as important for the Oilers as for the Blue Jackets as they needed the two points if they still wanted to be in the running for the play-offs.
However, a win for the Oilers would be great even though they are out of the play-off running.
The Oilers were on the charge right from the start and led 2-0 at the end of the first period.
They continued with their dominating performance in the final two periods. The Blue Jackets were also able to come up with a fighting performance as well.
Both teams scored a goal apiece in the final two periods but it was the Oilers who won the game 4-2 in the end. Taylor Hall, rookie of the Oilers was named the star of the game as he scored a goal and made an assist.
Both teams started off decently but the Oilers were able to pull ahead of the Blue Jackets. They came up with some splendid pieces of play and shooting that saw them coming close to scoring on several occasions.
Though it took sometime but the Oilers managed to score in the 13th minute with Sam Gagner scoring during power play to get into the lead.
Oilers kept on piling the pressure on the Blue Jackets defence and they doubled the lead with another goal in the 17th minute. The goal was scored by Taylor Hall from brilliant quick fired shot.
The period ended with the Oilers leading 2-0 as they made 13 goal attempts during the period while the Oilers made 11 goal attempts.
The second period saw the Oilers starting off in spectacular fashion as they scored with just 14 seconds past in the period. The goal was scored by Jordon Eberle from a superb backhand shot.
However, the Blue Jackets were able to respond to this with a goal in the second minute.
The goal was scored by Matt Calvert from a well placed flick shot. The period continued with both teams continuously coming across scoring opportunities but they failed to score any further goals.
The period ended with the Oilers leading 3-1 as they made 13 goal attempts during the period while the Blue Jackets made 10 goal attempts.
The final period of the game saw the Blue Jackets scoring the first goal in the 16th minute after a slow start to trial by a single goal. The goal was scored by Scottie Upshall from a decent strike.
However, it was the Oilers who sealed the game with a goal in the final minute scored by Andrew Cogliano from a well placed flick shot to win the game 4-2 in the end.
During the final 20 minutes of play, the Blues Jackets made 7 goal attempts while the Oilers made 12 goal attempts.
