The first game of Saturday was played at the Rexall Place, home of the Edmonton Oilers as they were up against the Atlanta Thrashers. As said before, the Oiler is pretty much out of contention for the play-offs but they face some big teams in the league
now. A win in any of the games could change the outcome of the season and the teams given the tight things in the league.
Though the Thrashers lead 2-1 at the start of the final period, but the Oilers stepped up their game scoring four goals in the final period to win the game 5-3 in the end. Taylor Hall, winger of the Oilers was named the star of the game for scoring a hat-trick.
The Thrashers made a great start to the game which saw them coming across numerous scoring shots. Though they weren’t able to capitalize from the strong start they made but the start certainly destabilized the Oilers defence early on.
The fans pushed their team towards making attacks which resulted in them making shots on goal as well. However, it was the Thrashers who scored in the 5th minute to get into the lead. The goal was scored by Dustin Byfuglien from a powerful strike
that left the goal keeper with no chance of stopping it.
Both teams came up with some good plays during the course of the remaining period but they weren’t able to come up with shots due to the tight defence of both teams. The period ended with the Thrashers leading 1-0 at the end of the period. Six goal attempts
each were made by the two teams at the end of the first period.
The second period started with the Thrashers continuing on the dominating roads. The away side scored once again in the first minute to double their lead. The goal was scored by Andrew Ladd from a well placed flick shot.

The period saw the Thrashers coming up with a few more shots on goal but they weren’t able to find the back of the net. Thrashers led 2-1 as the teams went into the break. During the period, Thrashers made 16 goal attempts while the Oilers made 5 goal attempts.
After a strong start to the final period which saw the Thrashers scoring through Evander Kane in the very first minute it was all about the Oilers.
The Oilers took charge of the game and scored two goals in quick succession to level the scores. Both the goals were scored by Taylor Hall from two brilliant shots in the first and third minutes respectively during power play.
The home crowd went wild as Taylor Hall completed his hat-trick with another power play goal in the 15th minute to put the Oilers into the lead. The Oilers dominance saw them scoring once again in the final minute to seal the game. The goal was
scored by Ales Hemsky from decent strike.
