Edmund Gerber to defend his win streak against Maurice Harris – Boxing News
Edmund Gerber, the surging German brawler, will enter the ring with his undefeated win streak to take on Maurice Harris, the current USBA heavyweight champion, in an eight-round bout which will be held on May 5, 2012.
The ring for the bout will be stretched at Messehalle arena situated in Erfurt, Thuringen, Germany and the event will be headlined by the much anticipated WBO cruiserweight championship bout between Marco Huck and Ola Afolabi.
The Saturday night show will also witness the championship bout between Alexander Dimitrenko and Kubrat Pulev which will co-headline the pay-per-view whereas the show is being organised and promoted by the duo of Wilfried Sauerland of Sauerland Event and
Ulf Steinforth of Sport Events Steinforth.
Edmund recently attended a pre-bout media press conference and shared his thoughts about the upcoming engagement. Gerber, 23, is in his 19th career bout and has lost not even a single bout.
The young German lad has nailed 13 of his opponents by knocking them out cold and is coming from an impressive win over Oleksiy Mazikin. Edmund attracted media’s due attention after his impressive second-round knockout win over heavily experienced Rene Dettweiler.
During the interview when asked as to how he feels about his upcoming opponent, Edmund commented, “He is a good boxer. I have sparred with him before, so I am well aware of his good technique and I won’t underestimate him.”
On the question as to what are his thoughts about his famous bout with Rene, the German proud remarked, “Winning against him was a great feeling but that fight is so long ago now and in the past, therefore I don’t really care about it anymore.”
Edmund’s opponent Maurice is a high calibre pugilist who has been in a total 43 bouts and boats 25 wins with 11 of them via knockout. As far as the knockout and win ratio are concerned, Edmund has a clear upper hand over Harris, who recently defended his
USBA heavyweight title against Derric Rossy.
The bout will be a classic one and will definitely be one of the toughest tests of Edmund’s career and if he emerges victorious in this bout, he will definitely move up in the division and will take on bouts with 10-rounds. But at the moment, the title defence
has really heightened the motivation level in Harris’ arms and fists and he might create difficulties for the young German.
