Edoardo Alescio wins the title - WPT Venice 2011
The glorious WPT (World Poker Tour) Venice event finally concluded on Sunday night with one of the least experienced players being crowned as the new champion. Edoardo Alescio beat all the odds to claim the WPT champion title at
the Casino Di Venezia, in the floating city of Venice, bagging home $255,842 by the end of Day 5 of the tournament.
Taking off the final day’s play with over a million ships in the bag (1,714,000 to be precise), Alescio went all the way to bust a number of pros to claim the WPT Venice title in a convincing fashion. Steve O’Dwyer was eliminated
in the second place, taking home $125,740, to let the amateur take the prestigious title in the end. The official leaders’ board standings at the end of the tournament were as follows:

The final table of the tournament hosted five of the surviving players from a huge field of 213 contestants. With a number of top players contesting, sloppy action was witnessed at the start but the game became more and more enthralling
as it progressed. Alescio kept on with his aggressive tactics in the game, hitting the board harder and harder every time he played a hand and kept building up his stack of chips to remain dominant all the time.
After three of the contestants busted out of the event, it all came down to Alescio and O’Dwyer to decide the champion. In the last hand of the tournament, both men went all-in with their huge piles of chips.
Alescio    : five of clubs, five of spades

O’Dwyer : ace of clubs, seven of spades
O’Dwyer went on top of the excitement when he saw an ace of hearts on the flop but a five of hearts hitting the board latter on turned Alescio crazy with delight. The turn and river cards failed to turn the hand in O’Dwyer’s favour
and Alescio lunged into the crowd of his fans to celebrate his emphatic victory.
