Edouard Roger-Vasselin defeats Rui MacHado 6-1, 6-4
World number 144 Edouard Roger-Vasselin of France prevailed over world number 95 Rui MacHado of Portugal in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 in the final round match of the qualifying draw at the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell on Sunday. It
took the French just one hour and 23 minutes to undo his opponent.
Roger-Vasselin thrashed MacHado in the opening set, dropping just a single game to win the set 6-1.
The French fired 66 percent of the first serves, converting 58 percent of them into points in the opening set. While, MacHado hit 63 percent of the first serves and won 50 percent of the points on them. The Portuguese saved one
of the three break points he faced in the first set. MacHado failed to convert any of the three break point opportunities he received in the opening set.
Roger-Vasselin took the early lead in the second set as he broke MacHado in the first game. However, the Portuguese broke back in the fourth game to level the score at 2-2. In the ninth game, Roger-Vasselin broke again to go up
5-4 and held his serve in the next game to clinch the set 6-4.
The Frenchman hit a single ace and 62 percent of the first serves in the second set. The 27-year-old converted 61 percent of his first serves into points in the second set. Roger-Vasselin capitalized on two of the six break points
he received in the second set.
The right-handed will meet world number 209 Andrey Kuznetsov of Russia in the first round of the main draw.
Simone Vagnozzi beats Evgeny Donskoy 7-5, 6-3
Italian Simone Vagnozzi, ranked 186th in the world, ousted world number 204 Evgeny Donskoy of Russia in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 to move to the main round.
Vagnozzi and Donskoy exchanged three breaks of serve in the first ten games of the opening set, levelling the score at 5-5. Vagnozzi broke again in the 12thgame and won the first set 7-5.
The Italian kept his first serve percentage at 84 percent and won 59 percent first service points in the opening set. The 27-year-old won four of the six break points he received in the first set. The right-handed failed to save
any of the three break points he faced in the opening set.
Vagnozzi needed just a single break of serve in the second set, clinching it 6-3. The Italian delivered 77 percent of the first serves in the second set, winning 75 percent of the points on them. Vagnozzi did not face any break
point in the second set.
The Italian will play world number 49 Fabio Fognini of Italy in the first match of the main draw.
