Edouard Roger-Vasselin blocks off Dudi Sela in the quarter-final – Granby Challenger 2011
The Granby Challenger 2011 had more than 100 professional men and women from over 20 countries participating for the title. The event consisted of 32 single matches and 16 doubles in the men’s and women’s draws. The last quarter-final
match out of four of the Granby Challenger 2011 for Friday was played between Edouard Roger-Vasselin of France and Dudi Sela of Israel.
The competing tennis internationals had played only once before against each other before this event. The Israeli managed to win the first encounter until the Granby quarter-final. The world No.81 Sela had a career high ranking
of world No.29 in September 2009. The 26-year-old won 7 out of the 10 matches he played including this fixture. Playing with his right hand, the Israeli tennis star played most of his match on hard and grass courts.
Edouard is a French tennis international player. The 27-year-old has been in terrific form losing only 2 of the last 10 games including his win in the quarter-final against Dudi Sela. The Frenchman had knocked out every opponent
in this event without losing a set. Although he lost his first fixture against the Israeli, he succeeded in taking his revenge in the Granby challenger quarter-final.
Kicking off with the match Sela served for the opener, and carried through to win the first game 1-0. The Frenchman followed to level it off in the next game and succeeded in winning a breakpoint on the next to take the lead 2-1.
He then increased his lead to 3-1 but the Israeli came back to reduce the deficit to 3-2. Edouard gave away a breakpoint to level the scores to 3-3 after game 6.
The players heated up as they consecutively won breakpoint in 3 games against each other to level the score once again to 4-4, eventually forcing a tiebreaker. The Frenchman succeeded in taking away the tiebreaker and the set
to lead the match 1-0.
Starting off with the second set, Edouard came up much stronger. The Israeli could only win two games of the second set as the world No. 122 dominated throughout the set. He won the set with 2 breakpoints and the match 7-6(5),
6-2 to qualify to the semis.
The Frenchman sits in the semis seat to play his countryman Arnaud Clement.
