Edouard Roger-Vasselin downs Michal Przysiezny to enter main draw – Kremlin Cup 2012
Qualifying third seed, Edouard Roger-Vasselin form France, took the better of the Polish challenger, Michal Przysiezny, in straight sets at the qualifying competition of the Kremlin Cup 2012 on Monday. He nudged up a 6-2, 6-4 victory against the world number
279 to secure a place in the first round at this ATP World Tour 250 Series event held in Moscow, Russia.
The French seed showed tremendous skills to outclass Przysiezny in their first encounter. After registering the success in one hour and 25 minutes, Roger-Vasselin comfortably progressed into the main draw at this indoor hard court event taking place from
13th to 21st October.
Roger Vasselin thundered into the Olympic Stadium. He unleashed barrage of groundstrokes and reeled off four games in a row before Przysiezny could come on the score sheet. The French then held his remaining serves with conviction and clicked the opener
with a 6-2 win. He superbly warded off all three breakpoints he came across to keep his entire serves and converted two out of six break chances to his advantage.
Ranked 116th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Roger-Vasselin maintained consistency in his game in the following set. He smoothly held his entire serves and got the breakthrough in the fifth game, eventually sealing the set
by winning six games to four. He brushed off all four breakpoints he encountered and capitalised on one out of two break chances.
All in all, the French struck 12 aces and produced an amazing first serve share of 72 per cent as opposed to his rival’s 53 per cent. He also availed 36 out of 44 points on it and ended the match with 70 points. Spicing his performance further, Roger-Vasselin
spilled fewer unforced errors and prevailed throughout the clash.
The 28-year-old French will face off the local wild card entrant, Evgeny Donskoy, in the opening round.
The fourth seed, Michael Berrer, will accompany Roger-Vasselin in the main draw. He hit back to oust the Kazakhstani competitor, Andrey Golubev, in three sets to set up this meeting. The German veteran was broken twice but availed three out of 12 break chances
to dominate.
