Edouard Roger-Vasselin outlasts Adrien Bossel in the second round – ATP Roller Open 2012
Edouard Roger-Vasselin of France survived a second set meltdown to defeat Switzerland’s Adrien Bossel 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in the round of 16 of the ATP Roller Open in Petange, Luxembourg. The Frenchman needed an hour and 39 minutes to
undo Bossel in a tough match.
Roger-Vasselin and Bossel started the contest by holding their opening serves and levelling the score at 1-1. The French contender nailed a breakthrough in the third and consolidated on it to gain a 3-1 lead. Roger-Vasselin struck
again in the ninth game to close it 6-3.
The French participant stunned his opponent with the help of his serves, as he did not lose even a single point on them. The 28-year-old captured all the 11 first and five second delivery points. The 6ft 2in tall responded aggressively
to the second serves of Bossel, sealing nine of the 16. The Frenchman did not face any break threat and availed two of the five chances he received in the opener.
Bossel came roaring in the second set, as he hit a blow to Roger-Vasselin in the opening game and won his following serve to take a 2-0 lead. The Swiss participant maintained his advantage till the end to grab it 6-4.
The 25-year-old relied on his first serves to dismantle his opponent, as he bombarded seven aces, grabbing 16 of the 19 points on them. Bossel did not come across any break point and utilised one of the four opportunities he created
in the second set.
After the match score getting tied at one set apiece, it all came to the final set. Roger-Vasselin made a flying start, as he grabbed opening three games to race to a 3-0 lead. The French contestant did not allow Bossel to bounce
back till the end, sealing it 6-3.
Roger-Vasselin hit four aces but also committed a couple of double faults in the final set. The 6ft 2in tall won most of the points on the first serves and second returns, pocketing 16 of the 18 and six of the eight points on them
respectively.
The Frenchman is pitted against the Belgian participant, Niels Desein, in the quarters.
