Philippine’s Edson Malaki has defeated Reden Cuded, in the Men’s Singles first round match of the 2011 Goal Pilipinas - Bingo Bonanza event, held at Bacolod City, Philippines, on Tuesday, May 31.
Edson opened his campaign against a spirited Reden, who played outstanding badminton in the first set of the match. Both shuttlers were playing at the same level by keeping the game’s speed quite high.
At the initial stage of the match, Edson made some unforced errors, which helped his opponent to set-up a decent lead of 11-8, at the end of the first-half.
After the interval, Reden continued playing better and kept the bird in complete control. Edson tried to gear up his speed, but failed to find a gap in his opponent’s court. Reden clinched the opening set by a reasonable margin of 21-18.
Edson changed his strategy in the second game. He started to dominate the game by playing well at the net. His tumbling net strokes helped him in breaking the flow of his opponent. At the end of the first-half, Edson was leading the second set by a comfortable margin of 11-7.
Reden tried to work hard in the second-half of the set and reduced the gap by reaching 13-16. At this crucial stage, Edson controlled the rallies by playing aggressive badminton and won the set with a difference of 21-16, in 15 minutes.
Edson proved his worth in the third game, where he remained miles ahead of his opponent in all aspects of the game. His perfectly executed smashes and hard to return spinning net shots spared no chance for Reden to fight back in the game.
Edson took just 11 minutes to finish the final game in tremendous fashion, by a convincing difference of 21-11. Reden could not match the speed of his opponent and lost the match after putting up a spirited show in the first game. Edson emerged as the winner in this 42-minute long match by a score of 18-21, 21-16 and 21-11.
