Eduardo Schwank defeats Miljan Zekic in the qualifiers – Serbia Open 2012
Seeded fourth in the qualifying competition, Argentina’s Eduardo Schwank trashed the local contestant, Miljan Zekic, in straight sets at the Serbia Open 2012 on Sunday. He jolted down a 6-4, 6-4 success against the 23-year-old to reach the final qualifying
round at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) clay court event taking place from 28th April to 6th May in Belgrade.
The world number 179 dominated throughout the match eventually pulling out the victory in one hour and 34 minutes in their first meeting. After bagging this match, he comfortably secured a place in the final round of the qualifying competition at the SRPC
Milan Gale Muskatirovic.
Schwank thundered into this ATP World Tour 250 series event and drew the first blood in the opening game to take the initial lead. He then maintained his intensity and capitalised on another break opportunity in the fifth game and jumped to a 5-1 lead. Regardless
of losing his serve in the eighth game, the Argentinean got the breakthrough in the eighth game and swiped in the opener by winning six games to four.
The 26-year-old kept momentum running into the following set and after breaking his opponent’s serve twice, he took a 5-1 lead again. In spite of losing his serve again in the eighth game, Schwank stayed focused and carved out the victory with a 6-4 score
line.
All in all, the Argentinean penned down an equal first serve share of 69 per cent but amazingly marked 33 out of 48 points on it. He warded off five out of seven breakpoints he faced and converted four out of nine break opportunities to his advantage.
Up next for Schwank is the qualifying sixth seed, Josselin Ouanna. The seeded French crushed Romania’s Gabriel Moraru with a breadstick in under an hour to progress at this event.
The second seed, Antonio Veic, also earned the glory earlier that day. He fired three aces and broke Aldin Setkic’s serve three times to formulate a 6-4, 6-2 score line. The Croat also manifested a better first serve share of 71 per cent and brilliantly
clicked 31 out of 36 points on it.
