Eduardo de la Riva seeks to prove his mettle once again in Spain
Eduardo De La Riva is ready to prove his mettle once again in Spain, when he tees off at the upcoming Challenge de Catalunya, set to be played from September 27 to 30, at Club de Golf La Graeira.
De La Riva hails from Spain and is one of the strongest contenders in the inaugural Challenge de Catalunya roster, because of his sound track record on the home soil.
Early this year, he recorded a victory at the Fred Olsen Challenge de España, his first on the European Challenge Tour.
He is placed 31st in the European Challenge Tour Rankings and now seeks to make it to the top-20, who will earn full-time playing status for the 2013 European Tour season.
While sharing his thoughts in a pre-tournament interview, De La Riva said that he is pretty happy to have found an opportunity to play among some of the best names on the tour.
There are a total of five events remaining in the current season, including this week’s tournament in Tarragona.
Therefore, it is crucial for the Spaniard to record a strong finish this week, if he does not want to go to the qualifying school in December for the European Tour card.
He is currently enjoying a good form on the tour, thanks chiefly to a top-10 finish in the Rolex Trophy.
However, he is worried about his putting technique for the last few months. According to him, he needs plenty of improvement in his short game. Otherwise, he will have to face some difficulties in Calafell this week.
He said, “I’ve been playing well, but my putting has let me down. I putted very badly in Russia all week, then improved for the first three days in Kazakhstan, but on the fourth day my putter went very cold again”.
“I’ve been hitting the ball well for quite a while now, so if I can get it going on the greens this week, hopefully I can do well”.
“The course is fairly tricky, because there are a few blind shots and it’s quite hilly. So it won’t be easy, but I will do my best,” he added.
