Eduardo set for 'emotional' return to Arsenal in Champions League
Shakhtar Donetsk forward Eduardo da Silva (‘Eduardo’) has revealed that his is preparing to make an ‘emotional’ return to his former club Arsenal — but insisted that his main concern will be claiming all three points as the sides meet in the UEFA Champions
League.
Eduardo moved to the Ukrainian side in the summer after struggling to return to his best form and full fitness. He suffered a broken leg two years ago after a reckless challenge by Birmingham City’s Martin Taylor which ruled him out for just under a year.
The 27-year-old told Sky Sports that the incident had left a lasting impact on his career.
He said that: "It wasn't my fault I broke my leg, but it's true to say that moment changed my sporting career. I don't know what would have happened if I hadn't suffered the injury, but perhaps with more continuity I would still have been in the team.
'Trying to concentrate on match'
"If I play it will be very emotional, but I'm just trying to concentrate on the game and I am calm about the match. Shakhtar Donetsk are coming to London calm ahead of a difficult game. We have won the first two matches and we feel less pressured. It won't
be easy, but we want to spring a surprise."
Shakhtar and Arsenal share the lead in Group H having each won their matches against Partizan Belgrade and Sporting Braga. As a result, Eduardo will be putting his history with the club, affection for the Emirates supporters and friendship with current Arsenal
players to the back of his mind during the game on Tuesday (19 October).
The Brazil-born Croatia international added that: "I want to be remembered for being the best player on the pitch and not for my past with the Gunners, although I don't go into this game looking for any personal revenge. The supporters were always behind
me and they are in my heart and I am still in touch with Denilson, Cesc Fabregas and Robin (van Persie)."
