Eduardo won't celebrate if he scores against Arsenal
Shakhtar Donetsk striker Eduardo won’t be celebrating if he scores against his former club Arsenal, when the sides meet in their Champions League Group H clash.
Eduardo, who spent three years with the Gunners before leaving this summer, told
The Mirror, "I don't think I will celebrate. I respect the club. I had some great moments here and have respect for the supporters and Mr Wenger, for the club."
Eduardo’s time in North London is sadly best remembered for the horrific leg break he suffered in game against Birmingham City at St Andrews. It was an injury many thought might end his career.
Fortunately, he battled back after a lengthy lay-off. He hasn’t been the same player since, and failed to recapture his form, encouraging Arsene Wenger to part with the striker for £6m this summer.
The Brazilian-born Croatian clearly still holds the Gunners dear to his heart, but insists his professional and commitment to his new team means he will give his all in order to win on Tuesday night, October 19.
"I am glad to come back to London again. It was great times here with Arsenal, but now I am on the other side and play for Shakhtar. I will give them 100 percent, am ready to play and will give my all best," explained Eduardo. "If I score, it will be good
for Shakhtar. Hopefully we can finish with a positive result."
Not celebrating against a former employer is certainly a loyal and respectful thing to do, but as Eduardo rightly points out, his loyalties are with Shakhtar, and any other emotions must be swept under the carpet.
