I know that President Lincoln was self taught and his formal education only lasted a few months. President Washington formal education lasted only to his early teen years and was the equivalent of an elementary school education.

Washington was 8th grade, not sure about Lincoln. I will have to look that up.

Father of our country, George Washington, actually had no formal education, but was a surveyor by trade, before entering the military. Abraham Lincoln, president # 16, also had but a smidgen of formal education, he did however, become a master of the English language by reading all the classics. He self-taught himself in the legal field, took and passed the bar exam.
