In the Fall I will be taking Introduction to Education(EDF2005). I know I have to complete my 15 hours of observation but I also have to complete a portfolio. I was wondering what others have done so I can get a better understanding of what the portfolio is about.

  1. My education portfolio was a compilation of things I had done during my education training.  There were certain standards that we had to meet in order to be certified and in our portfolio we had to provide evidence of how we met those standards. My portfolio was comprised of lesson plans, behavior plans, checklists, observations, reviews of educational journals and a myriad of other items.  It is unclear from your question whether or not the portfolio is just for this class or for all of your education.  I am confident that the professors you have will detail what your portfolio must contain, but if left with any doubt ask.  I hope this helps.  Good luck with your teacher training and in your future teaching career.  :)

  2. Your portfolio will include documents that you create throughout your education. You will have papers that you write on various topics and lesson plans to prove your knowledge in all of the professional standards that you will be held accountable for.

At my school, we were required to upload our portfolios into an online system. My portfolio isn't in the best shape anymore but the following link can give you an idea of what you might be in for: https://phil.chalkandwire.com/EP2_A/Secu...

  3. While in college, my portfolio contained my most innovative lesson plans and photos of students engaged in the related activities (taken while I was an intern), my best integrated, thematic unit, photos of bulletin boards I had created and used, some manipulatives I had made and used with classes, a statement about my teaching philosophy, and copies of my evaluations from my supervising teachers.  Once I passed my certification exams and graduated, I added my teaching certificate, diploma, honors certificate and transcripts.  While applying for jobs, I included my resume' and letters of reference.

Basic goal of portfolio is to show what you believe about teaching and know about what/how students learn and how you put those into action.
