  1. The mind mapping (Google Tony Buzan)  software called Inspiration (download demo from www.inspiration.com) is just brilliant.  It was first imported into the UK for special needs, but actually is useful at all levels and I have used it with SEN to Gifted and talented.  The kids show each other to use it, and I have even had parents who then start to use it and say they cannot work without it.  Hard to describe, but basically you can use colour and images and sounds to help brainstorm, or summarise or plan an essay - aid any activity where you need to use your brain.  It tends to be fast because you do not need to make it text intensive (using ccolour and pictures instread of just words) and it is memorable so excellent for revision etc.

  3. Most "educational software" I've tried is c**p; videos are better. Learner.org and the various OpenCourseWare websites have lots of good things. I can give you more precise recommendations if you give me a specific area of interests.
