Edvald Boasson Hagen to take time off from professional cycling – Cycling News
Edvald Boasson Hagen has not raced since the UCI World Road Championships 2011 held in Copenhagen, Denmark. He was looking good during the Elite Men’s road race but could not match the likes of the race leader Mark Cavendish. Hagen finished the race at eighth
position and will be seen in action again at the Tour Down Under next year.
The 24-year-old is considered as one of the biggest rising talents in the sport as he turned professional in 2008 and secured a solid third position at the UCI ranking as of August 31, 2009. He started his career with team High Road and stayed with them
for 2008-09.
Hagen than moved to the British Team Sky in 2010 and his first race was during the Tour of Qatar as he made his intensions clear by winning the opening team’s time trial stage. Hagen continued his dominance by defeating Fabian Cancellara with a lead of 17
seconds during the final stage of Tour of Oman 2010. He won the Best Young Rider’s classification, the point’s classification, stage 3 and stage 6 with an overall second position at the Tour of Oman 2010.
The Norwegian started this year with a terrific performance as he won the National Time Trial Championships. He participated at the Tour de France 2011 and won stage 6 and stage 17 as he finished the race at 53rd position after final general classifications.
Edvald scored 192 points and was at the sixth position after the point’s classification of Tour de France 2011. He won the sixth stage of the Eneco Tour and finished the race at first position overall.
Hagen has decided to take time off from the sport as he mentioned that he needs to take some rest and start the next season fresh. He told procycling.no, “The main reason is that I now had the opportunity to take time off, I'm tired after a long season and
was not particularly motivated to ride the last races.” Boasson will be away from cycling for two weeks and will start practicing for the next season by the end of November. He will be appearing at the Tour of Down Under 2012 in Adelaide, South Australia and
it will be his first appearance at the race.
