Edward VIII and Wallace Simpson. Why did he have to Abdicate?

I know he'd married a divorcee, but so has Prince Charles, in marrying Camilla Parker-Bowles. Yet, he will still be next in line for the throne. Why is this? Have I missed something? Can anyone tell me why Edward VIII had to abdicate and why Charles will still get a crack at the job? Will Camilla be Queen?????? omg.

For those of you who state that one reason is that Wallace was a Catholic, get real.  She would have converted to become Queen.  Prince Philip converted from Greek Orthodox which is almost the same.
