Edwin Encarnacion helps Toronto Blue Jays bury New York Yankees 8-1 – MLB Update

Toronto Blue Jays buried New York Yankees 8-1 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Wednesday, May 16 in the opening game of their two match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
The Blue Jays made the most of available opportunities in a game that proved to be completely one sided at the end. Considering the Yankees’ form over the last few weeks, they were expected to battle it out but that did not turn out to be the case and Toronto
dominated them in almost all aspects of the game. With their win against the Yankees, John Farrell and company also improved their win-loss record to 20-18.
Toronto has a slightly better record in their away games and if they can start to deliver goods regularly at Rogers Centre, they will have an excellent chance of making it to the World Series finals. The Yankees, on the other hand, will be very frustrated
after suffering their second straight loss. Joe Girardi and company are one of the most resourceful teams in the American League and the fans will be expecting them to bounce back strongly in their next series.
"That sinker was really working," New York's Mark Teixeira said. "You don't want to say (Roy) Halladay because Halladay is a special pitcher but I felt like Halladay was out there tonight because (Drabek) just wasn't getting the ball up in the zone at all."
"More important was keeping the momentum on our side, Kyle going out and putting up a zero each time, but this was a good offensive night for us," Toronto manager John Farrell said.
J.P. Arencibia provided the Blue Jays with a great start as he homered to left centre in the second to put his team 2-0 ahead. Edwin Encarnacion joined the party in the third with a huge three run home run.
Kelly Johnson and Jose Bautista also displayed some great hitting skills, both adding a solo home run to help the Blue Jays secure an easy win over their American League rivals. Yankees’ starting pitcher Hiroki Kuroda had a forgettable time on the mound
as he allowed eight hits and season high three home runs.
