Edwin Jackson; an affordable option to improve starting rotation – MLB Detroit Tigers News

Detroit Tigers’ starting rotation can improve significantly if Edwin Jackson returns to Detroit in the next season, reports a leading sports website. Jackson had a decent time on the mound for Washington National last season as he went 10-11 with a 4.06
ERA. It was also the first time he remained in one league for the whole season since his spell with the Tigers three years ago.
The 29 year old has the ability to up his game play in pressure situations. Above all, he knows his limitations, which makes him a handy player at this level. Jackson posted impressive numbers from 2009 to 2010 splitting time between the St. Louis Cardinals,
Chicago White Sox and Arizona Diamondbacks.
Despite playing just six big league seasons, Jackson has already played for seven different Major League Baseball teams. As a 4th and 5th starter, his career numbers are pretty good. He is also a consistent and a reliable pitcher.
“Then there's his contract situation. With Anibal Sanchez set to make somewhere in the neighborhood of $15 million per season, Jackson will look to set his barometer somewhere near that mark. Jackson made $11 million with the Nationals last season and his
career numbers are somewhat comparable to Sanchez's (minus the second half collapses). Personally, I don't want someone who is only going to give us half a season of production signed for multiple years, but I would be slightly less irritated if Jackson received
a similar contract to that of Jeremy Guthrie (3 years, $25 million),” Rob Rogacki of blessyouboys.com said.
Since 2007, he has pitched at least 180 innings every season with his strikeout to walk ratio becoming increasingly steady. His strikeout average per nine innings is also very imposing; with 8 batters per nine innings last season being the highest mark of
his career. Over the last four seasons, he has amassed 10.0 WAR.
But why should the Tigers sign him? Without a shadow of a doubt, the Tigers have some of the best pitchers in the rotations. However, if they fail to come to terms with free agent Anibal Sanchez, it will a good move to sign Jackson instead as he can provide
them with more depth and variety.
