Edwin Jackson positive of winning the pennant for St. Louis Cardinals – MLB Update
St. Louis Cardinals’ starter Edwin Jackson is confident of helping his team through to the World Series with a win against Milwaukee Brewers in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series on Sunday, October 16 at Miller Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The Cardinals are leading the series 3-2, with two games yet to play. After qualifying for the postseason on the last day of the regular season via Wild Card standings, the Cardinals have greatly impressed with their versatility. They first overcame a resilient
Philadelphia Phillies in the NL Division Series and are now just a win away from the NL pennant.
Chris Carpenter inspired the Redbirds to an impressive 1-0 win over the Phillies in the elimination game of the NLDS, defeating Roy Halladay in the process. Edwin Jackson now aims at replicating Carpenter’s performance against Shaun Marcum, who was undoubtedly
the best pitcher for the Brewers in the regular season, but has failed to make his mark in the playoffs thus far.
The Redbirds are not in a must-win situation, but if Jackson achieves his aim, the Cardinals will benefit significantly. Manager Tony La Russa will then be in a position to rest his ace Carpenter for Game 1 of the World Series, giving him a go-ahead for
Game 2 against the Texas Rangers.
The Brewers, on the contrary, are not willing to risk their ace Yovani Gallardo for this game with the intent of taking the series to the stretch. Brewers’ manager Ron Roenicke advocated his viewpoint of leaving out Gallardo from the bull-pen for the crucial
tie by stating that he wants his ace to play against Carpenter in Game 7.
Welcoming the chance to close out the series, Jackson said, "There isn't one person in here who wouldn't want to take the ball. We're going to go out and have some fun. That's what we've been doing the whole second half. We're going to leave it all out and
take our chances of winning the ballgame."
Ruling out advantage to any team, Jackson asserted that the team which executes the plan properly will win.
