Edwin Jackson’s pitching helps Chicago White Sox defeat Cleveland Indians 4-2 – MLB Update
Chicago White Sox’ starter, Edwin Jackson had a notable day with his pitching as he threw his six innings with an ERA of 3.92 and gave the White Sox a 4-2 win against the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field, Cleveland on July 24.
The White Sox opened their first inning with a single run and got a 1-0 lead when Paul Konerko was grounded out to short-stop position and Juan Pierre posted one run on the score-board. The batters did nothing from the second to fourth inning of the game
and got out to various field spots. During the third inning, Mark Teahen flied out to centre-field, Omar Vizquel grounded out to third base and Alexei Ramirez also grounded out.
At the top of the fourth inning, Konerko struck-out swinging, Adam Dunn struck-out looking and Carlos Quentin grounded out to second base. Similarly, the Indians’ designated hitter Travis Hafner flied out to right-field, Carlos Santana grounded out to second
base and Orlando Cabrera grounded out to short-stop without taking any run.
The Indians’ batters tied the game 1-1 during the fifth inning when Ezequiel Carrera singled to right-field and Matt LaPorta scored a tie run. At the top of the sixth inning, the White Sox added two runs to get a lead while the Indians were able to score
just one run to reduce their lead 3-2, at the bottom of the sixth inning.
Jackson gave up just two runs on five hits with two earned runs and three walks but he was able to strike-out three batters on his 106 pitches.
Vizquel and Konerko both contributed two collective runs when Dunn moved to second base and saved due to the error of the Indians’ centre-fielder Carrera. On the other hand, Asdrubal Cabrera posted a single run when Hafner drove a single-run shot towards
centre-field.
In the seventh inning, the White Sox raised their lead 4-2 by adding one run to their score-card. Alex Rios contributed a single run for the White Sox when Teahen singled towards right-centre. During the eighth and ninth inning, the batters were grounded
out due to their sluggish batting.
After having an impressive win, the White Sox sealed the two-game series 2-0 and swept the Indians at their home-ground.
