Edwin Rodriguez: Jason Escalera has power in his fists and possesses the will to win – Boxing News
Edwin Rodriguez, the USBA super middleweight champion, is all set and geared up to defend his undefeated streak against Jason Escalera. He believes the bout is important for him, adding that Jason has immense power in his fists and above all will to win.
Edwin and Jason will headline ‘Road to Glory’ pay-per-view organised and promoted by Lou DiBella of DiBella Entertainment. The show will be televised live on HBO in its weekly special Saturday night boxing show on September 29, 2012.
Rodriguez and Jason’s promoter recently put forth their thoughts in front of the media during a teleconference. Edwin, 27, has been in a total of 21 bouts, boasting an undefeated streak with 21 wins.
The Dominican proud has pinned 14 of his opponents via knockout and is considered as a decent knockout pounder. Currently residing at World Boxing Organisation’s 10th spot, Edwin has pinned some big names such as Will Rosinsky, Aaron Pryor Jr, James McGirt
and others.
Edwin recently nailed Don George to engrave his name on the USBA super middleweight gold. While sharing his thoughts, Edwin in a humble manner praised his opponent and dubbed Jason as a strong individual with powerful fists and iron-will to win the bout.
Edwin commented, “This is an important fight in my career. I'm fighting a young, up-and-coming prospect who has power in both hands and a strong will to win. I'm ready. I've been in camp for about three weeks. I'm excited to get back on HBO on September
29, which is actually the day that my twins were born.”
Also known as ‘La Bomba’, Edwin also shared his experiences with Andy Lee and Ronnie Shields. Rodriguez was of the view that his sparring experience with Lee will definitely aid him, adding that he works extremely hard with Ronnie to keep himself fit in
order to improve his skills while eliminating the deficiencies.
Edwin dubbed the bout as a war between two of the best pugilists in the division, adding that the fans will certainly enjoy the onslaught. Joe Deguardia, Jason’s promoter, while sharing his thoughts during the conference pronounced the bout between Jason-Edwin
as a clash between Gatti-Ward.
Joe stated, “This fight between Jason Escalera and Edwin Rodriguez figures to be a Gatti-Ward kind of fight because they're both bangers, both exciting fighters. I'm proud of Jason Escalera, he's a real gentleman and a real warrior in the ring.”
The showdown will also witness Luis Orlando Del Valle take on Vic Darchinyan in a non-title 10-round bout, co-headlining the pay-per-view.
