The Manchester United legend was all praise for the former Ajax Amsterdam goalkeeper, and stressed that the 29-year-old’s move to AS Roma in the summer of 2011 helped him a lot.

The Dutch International, who started his professional career at Amsterdam Arena in the summer of 2002, impressed many with his phenomenal and consistent performances between the sticks for the Eredivisie giants during his nine-year stay.
The Dutch goalkeeper represented the Amsterdammers in 191 league fixtures before taking the next step in his career to join the Serie A outfit in the summer of 2011.
Van der Sar, who had successful spells with Ajax, Juventus, Fulham and Manchester United, was all praises for Stekelenburg, and revealed that the Dutchman moved away from Amsterdam Arena at the perfect time.
“Maarten was ready to go abroad. If he was 21, I would have advised him to stay put at Ajax, but all the flying, playing more top games and having more great players around him in Serie A has helped him grow. He has a personality that has really helped him make the step up to the international stage. I'd rather have nothing to do with flamboyant goalkeepers, and Maarten being quiet and sober is good for the Dutch national team”, the 41-year-old legendary goalkeeper was quoted as saying to De Telegraaf.
The Dutchman also heaped praise on Newcastle United goalkeeper, Tim Krul, and revealed that the 24-year-old gloves man has made rapid developments to his game.
“Tim is a relaxed guy with his feet firmly planted on the ground. He's not a boy who lives for the bravado”, Van der Sar concluded.
Stekelenburg and Krul both have been included in Bert van Marwijk’s final 23-man squad for Euro 2012 in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Denmark-c2884 on June 9.
Van der Sar would be hoping to see Stekelenburg perform at his best, and play an important part in his side’s success.
