Edwin van der Sar to advise Manchester United on replacement
It has been reported that Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, who will retire at the end of 2010-11 season, is expected to advise on who should replace him at Old Trafford.
The Dutch keeper is expected to start against Aston Villa on Tuesday, as the Red Devils aim to continue their unbeaten run in the Barclays Premier League.
Manchester United’s new signing, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tomasz-Kuszczak-c35329 played well during Van der Sar’s absence in their last three games.
However, Manchester United are also reportedly linked with some bigger names including the likes of Ajax goalkeeper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Manuel-Neuer-c23424.
Van der Sar said, “I think the manager will talk to me. Obviously you have some conversations about yourself or about other things. But I presume they have done some homework already because I don't think this is a big shock. I would expect them to have
a few possibilities on their radar.”
With a place already secured in the last 16 of the Union of European Football Associations Champions League, Edwin Van der Sar claimed that his focus is to win trophies with Manchester United and end his career on a high note.
However, he insisted, “It would be strange thing to say I was going to carry on for another year just to do something. That would be like forcing things. There is always a chance you could finish up with nothing. Sure, you would be disappointed if that is
what happens. But that is not going to change what I achieved in the rest of my career.”
Moreover, the number one shirt holder of Manchester United insists that he has faith in his teammates and expects United to win the Premier League crown for the record 19th time.
Manchester United signed Van der Sar from Fulham in 2005 and the Dutch goalkeeper has so far managed 245 appearances for the Red Devils.
