The Biancocelesti manager announces his resignation from the capital outfit despite support from the club President; cites UEFA Champions League failure as the reason.
Edy Reja has confirmed his exit from the Stadio Olimpico, after his consecutive failure to clinch a Champions League qualification spot.
The Biancazzurri manager attempted to quit twice during the course of the season as well, but he was persuaded back into the club by Lazio. However, the tactician has announced that his departure from the Rome outfit is now final.
Edy Reja stated that he has decided to end his adventure with Lazio, despite persuasion from President Claudio Lotito, who offered him full support to prolong his stay at the Aquile.
The Eagles’ tactician insisted that the President has asked him to take a week and re-think his decision, but the veteran stated that he has made up his mind.
While talking to Citta Celeste, the 66-year-old said:
“My Lazio adventure is over. President Claudio Lotito has given me support and he asked me to stay. Even after I said no, he told me to take a week to reflect on the situation. However, I have made my decision and I won’t change
my mind.”
Reja led Lazio to challenge for the UEFA Champions League qualification spot for two years in a row, but the fact that they fell short on both occasions, has left its mark on the manager.
The Aquile chief admitted that his decision to part company with the Eagles has a lot to do with the team’s failure to qualify for the European tournament. The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 coach went on to state that the injuries and the January
transfer window weakened his squad considerably, and pointed out that he was left with just a handful of first team players after the negotiations.
The Biancazzurri coach also criticised the negative environment prevalent in Rome, stating that it hurts when there is only criticism and people believe that two fourth place finishes count for nothing.
Reja was also enquired about his possible replacement at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lazio-c39775, but the manager stated that he has no idea who will arrive after him to manage the capital club.
