Lazio manager believes the Biancazzurri deserved to advance to the next stage and hints at January arrivals
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lazio-c39775 manager, Edy Reja, believes that his team deserved to qualify for the UEFA Europa League last 32 round.
The Biancazzurri beat Sporting Lisbon 2-0 in the last group stage game of the 2011/12 competition at the Stadio Olimpico Rome on Wednesday, December 14th, 2011. Libor Kozak and Giuseppe Sculli scored the goals for Biancocelesti.
F.C Vaslui’s 2-0 defeat at the hands of F.C Zurich helped the Italian side to finish second in the group.
Lazio witnessed a slow start to the campaign and in the end they had to depend on the results of other teams to advance further. Reja admitted to his team’s struggles and believes that the injury problems made it very difficult
for them. The veteran tactician is hoping to welcome some of his injured stars back into the team for the games against Udinese and Chievo Verona.
“We did struggle to qualify, especially as I have few options to rotate the squad. There are many injury problems and I hope to have some back for the games against Udinese and Chievo.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 boss revealed that his side was desperate to score early against Lisbon and once they broke the deadlock things got easier for them. The 66-year-old believes that his team deserved to qualify for the knockout
round because they played some lovely football despite the results not justifying for it.
“We gave it our all from the very start to score, so fortunately after breaking the deadlock it all became much easier. If we got to this stage, it’s because we deserved this qualification. Our performances have been good throughout
the competition, even when they weren’t supported by the results.”
The former Palermo midfielder is not ruling out January transfer activity and insisted that they will dip in the market if they needed any reinforcements.
“If there are a few moves to be made, then I think President Claudio Lotito would be ready. We are monitoring the transfer market, including young players.”
