The Biancazzurri manager has defended his players for the touchline protests against Udinese; believes that the capital side can still qualify for Champions League
Udinese registered a 2-0 win over Lazio last weekend, but the second goal came under huge controversy. The Biancazzurri players stopped playing few seconds before the scheduled finish time after they heard the final whistle coming
from the crowd.
Lazio players staged a protest on the touchline, and became furious on the officials who had allowed the goal to stand. As a result, Andre Dias was handed a three-match ban and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Federico-Marchetti-c13477 received a four-game ban for his
antics.
Reja has defended his players, and believes that his team was harsh done by the decisions. The former Napoli boss accused Udinese staff member for blowing that whistle instead of it coming from the stands.
While talking to the reporters, Reja remarked:
“Everyone saw what happened, the images are clear. We thought the game was finished, then saw referee Bergonzi wave to continue. We conceded a goal that I consider to be irregular, as our players had stopped. Our sensation was
that the whistle came from near to the pitch.”
The Biancocelesti manager has urged his team to move on from the result, and look forward to their next game. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lazio-c39775 were in a comfortable position for claiming the final Champions League spot, but their poor recent form has seen
them squander the position.
However, Reja is still confident that his team can make a late surge to claim the third-spot.
“We are not dead yet. We have the same chance of finishing third as we did before. We will begin by winning tomorrow and trying to turn the light back on, as Siena are out last opportunity to stay in the race. Winning is indispensible,
as we need a reaction and to find some calm again.”
Lazio are positioned 6th in the league table, joint on points with Udinese and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 winning their respective week 36 game, they have made a strong claim for a third-place finish.
Reja’s side will host Siena in their round 36 game on Wednesday, May 02.
