Kind of an odd, open, general question, like somethng in context with a study lesson.  The importance of both input and output impedance is to match stages for maximum power transfer.  Any mismatch will result in a portion of the power reflected back to the previous stage.  CB'ers know this as SWR, or Standing Wave Ratio.  On a large scale, it can also contribute to heat, further reducing amplifier or transmission gain.  Which ties in the third part of your question about amplifier gain.  All three of those factors will affect range and clarity.
