I cannot find this in the manual, but if I run out of gas on a 2001 Road King with fuel injection will it ruin the motor. If not, can I just refill the tank and turn on the key will it prime the carb and run?

Just curious.

  1. 1 can burn up fuel pump [pump is cooled by the gas]

2 it can air lock the FI system

3 it can leave u stuck on the side of the road

  2. its bad to run it out of gas because the fuel pump then picks up dirt and grime from the bottom of the fuel tank. Thats the stuff that can ruin the fuel injection and engine.

  3. You can ruin the fuel pump too because it needs the fuel to keep it cool.

  4. ruin the motor no... refill tank yes,, turn on key to prime yes running out of gas no... ive put over 70,000 on my bike have been across country a few time and yet to run out of gas... better than pushing or walking any day

  5. Harley claims that it will do absolutely no damage.  I do, however, think that running that low can cause premature fuel pump failure due to overheating.  Your King doesn't have a carburetor. Ihr hat eingespritzen!
