Effective exercises to run a faster mile?

What are some good exercises I can do at home that would cut down my mile-run time?

  1. well, i run cross country, and that involves running 2-4 miles a practice, 5 days a week at school, and i run around 2-3 miles saturday and sunday in the morning to beat the heat. we run suicides, the shuttle, run the karaoke. so, what i do to improve my times is jog 400 meters, and the stretch. then do the karaoke. do that for about 20 minutes to improve your footwork. then, i like to go for a run to work on my stamina. try running at a good pace for about half a mile, and then i like to sprint the rest of the mile. and if you cant do this, sprint, and when you get tired, jog, and then when you catch your breath, sprint again. it takes time and practice, but its worth it. and then, do this everyday (i do it everyday since i have cross country) but, if you cant handle every day, start with a few days a week and gradually go more and more. and just time yourself every time and try to beat yourself.
