  1. My most effective teachers had high expectations of the class, which translated into confidence that we were capable of doing well.  They ignored any whining about working too hard and left us tired, but knowing that we had achieved things of which we never realized we were capable.

  2. My American Government teacher was super energetic, got involved with every student in the room, and made each student feel they made a difference.  He was not a super easy teacher, but getting an A+ was also not impossible.  He made government come alive and now today, makes me wonder why the politicians in office today didn't take his class.

  3. My effective teachers, those that facilitated learning, often posed real life problems and then illustrated solutions using the class syllabus materials. First, encourage and demand attendance. Reward attendance and on-time behavior. Second, assign meaningful homework and be sure it is completed. Use in-class short open-book tests to learn about students' strengths and weaknesses.
