How many winter days on average can I expect this to work? I'm trying to figure out if it is worth the investment to save on the gas. Any other issues using one of these I should be aware of?

  1. It loses it's effectiveness in real cold weather but still will save you money in the long run.It is equipped to defrost as needed and will bring on the supplementary heat when it's not keeping up.

At first,if you are not used to one,the air won't feel hot like gas or heat strips do but is a steady warmth that continues to flow.

They have been proven.I have one myself.

  2. If you want a heat pump that will always work well even in a place like Denver try a ground source heat pump.  The install cost is high and you need to have some area to drill some wells/holes but they are very cost effective to run no matter how cold it gets because they do not depend on air temperature.  They will also significantly reduce your cooling costs.  The link below has more information.
