Please don't get any ideas. im just wondering. im not thinking about doing anything. im just doing some research to make sure it doesn't happen.

im 16

i'm prescribed to vicodin 5/500 mg ( for headaches, and i do see a neurologist for it) and i do admit i will take more then needed to at a time, like 2 or 3.

but how many pills would you need to overdose?

what would it feel like?

symptoms ?

if you have suffered and overdose of vicodin, what did it feel like?

how long does it take for the effects to set in?

is passing out a sign of overdosing?

any other facts you could give me

would be great

thanks, dont worry i DONOT want to overdose , im just making sure i be careful.

please, intelligent answers and no judgments.

  1. vicodin is an opiate,    opiate overdose is characterized by lethargy, low blood pressure,  small pupils (miosis), and lack of respiration.  In fact, all opiate overdoses that lead to death is due to your diaphram receiving such an inhibited stimulation from nerves that it essentially stops contracting and thus you dont breath.

you are taking the most mild dossage of vicodin,   their is also a 7.5 and a 10mg formulation,  and is a relatively mild opiate,  probably among the weakest.   In fact, most medical professionals will tell you they are concerned with the amount of acetometaphen  that is in their than the actual opiate.

Overdoses are also very patient selective,  some people are just more sensitive than others to opiates.

My biggest concern is that  your doctor prescribed you a highly habbit forming drug for a chronic condition (migranes/headaches)  at such a young age.    I would suggest  looking into dietary regiments that may alleviate headaches,     go on a less habbit forming drug  such as imitrex, propranalol, neurotinin, etc.....  talk it over with your doctor.

FYI: i have heard cases of people taking 30-35 vicodin a day,  to give you an idea of the "safty" margin,   however they might also be addicts who have used it for years and are conditioned to take that many.   Dont drink with the,   and since your 16 you probably shouldnt be drinking in general.

  2. The amount of pills that is considered an overdose depends on several things. Your BMI, body type, and size and brand of pill. It's hard to say. Generally, an overdose is taking about 10-20 pills at a time.

    SYMPTOMS:

        * Exaggerated form of normal action (e.g., sleepiness on antiepileptics, hypoglycemia on insulin)

        * Other effects due to chemical properties of the medication (e.g., metabolic acidosis in aspirin, liver failure due to paracetamol)

        * Non-specific symptoms due to central nervous system irritation (e.g., confusion, vertigo, nausea, vomiting, delirium, seizures)

As a word of advice, do not take more than the amount prescribed. Other than the obvious reason, you are making yourself vulnerable for addiction. I just thought you should know that. It's best to go with what your doctor tells you.

  3. overdosing usually depends on your weight and your tolorance for the med.   An overdose of Vicodin can be fatal.

Overdose symptoms may include extreme drowsiness, sweating, pinpoint pupils, nausea, vomiting, dark urine, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), confusion, cold and clammy skin, muscle weakness, fainting, weak pulse, slow heart rate, coma, blue lips, shallow breathing, or no breathing. So yes passing out is a sign..Please be careful your life is priceless!! Best Of Wishes
