Effects of sibling rivalry?

can someone explain to me how does the sibling rivalry influences child emotional status in his/her life?

Well I am now 26 and my sister 24 and she says at times she still feels like she is compeating with me.  For attention from our mother or just in general.  And she still feels my parents favored me over her!

I would love to know the answer to this question too, my kids are always competing and fighting over everything ,even the smallest things, and I dont know how to stop it, and it cant be healthy.
